Sale is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, in Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Cheshire, the town lies on flat ground on the south bank of the River Mersey, 5.2 miles southwest of the Manchester city centre.
Sale has some large detached and semi-detached houses although many larger properties have been converted into flats.
The oldest cottage is Eyebrow Cottage which looks somewhat out of place today in Cross Street. It was built as a farmhouse in 1670 and has noteworthy decorative brickwork over the windows.
The Square Shopping Centre is the main area of retail shopping and services. The churches of St Martin and St John the Divine are listed buildings along with Ashton New Hall.
Two of the town's main attractions are the Sale Water Park, which contains an artificial lake used for water-sports, and the Waterside Arts Centre. Sale Sharks rugby union club was founded in the town, as was the Sale Harriers athletics club, although both have now relocated elsewhere.
