Sutton Coldfield is a town in the West Midlands of England. It lies about 8 miles northeast of Birmingham City Centre.
Archaeological excavations in the area uncovered Bronze Age burnt mounds and an Iron Age settlement of round houses dating back from 400 to 100 BC.
The town is well known for its 2000+ acres of natural parklands. Sutton Coldfield Park extends across a good deal of the Constituency of Sutton Coldfield and is Birmingham’s largest park and an example of the extensive forest that covered much of the Midlands.
Sutton Coldfield has a prosperous history and many manors were built in the area including the Grade II listed Moat House. Many homes are now hotels such as the Moor Hall Hotel and Moshull Hall Hotel.
The main shopping centre is The Mall with further shops at the Red Rose Centre. Independent shops can be found on the Parade and New Hall Walk. The High Street and King Edwards Square are now part of a conservation area. The town hall serves as a theatre, conference centre and function room.
The town boast many golf clubs including "The Belfry" which has hosted the Ryder Cup on several occasions.
